Beholders are paranoid genius spheres of hatred. Generate names for eye tyrants, hive mothers, and the aberration your party will never unsee.
Beholder naming that sounds alien
Beholder names should feel slightly wrong in the mouth — dense x/z clusters, abrupt endings, and titles that reveal ego more than lineage. The creature’s paranoia shows up in epithets: every rival gets a different insulting nickname for the same tyrant.
For hive or nest adventures, generate one “true” name and several lesser eye-tyrant titles so minions contradict each other on purpose.
Example sets
Core tyrants: Xanzoth, Vaxmox, Quaxnox.
With lair brand: Zaxtyrant of the Crystal Cavern, Gaxgaze of the Mirror Pit.
Lesser kin: spectators and death kisses can reuse the root with softer suffixes.
Encounter prep
Name the beholder first, then generate its lair and a rival faction of Underdark survivors. The dungeon generator plus this name is usually enough for a one-shot eye-tyrant delve.
