A mainstay in every DnD setting, and in real life, humans are renowned for their adaptability, perseverance, and just how much they get done in such a relatively short lifespan. In 5E humans, as well as the most popular variant, were included in the Player’s Handbook and have seen many character sheets in the following years. Whilst a variety of human variants exist in the Eberron setting to represent Dragonmarks, this article will focus on the PHB variety of humans found in all settings.

Unparalleled Variety

Unlike other races presented in the game, there is no ‘typical’ depiction of a human, with height, weight, skin tone, and more varying so greatly between different peoples within the same race. In settings like the Forgotten Realms, humans of similar characteristics are often found as part of certain regions of the world, although individuals from those places travel and adventure across the land.

Humans mix well with all races, often serving as ambassadors, merchants, and diplomats and picking up the native languages of the races they deal with most. This trait means humans are found all over the world, and often have the blood of other races in their lineage. The lifespan of the typical human may be short compared to many other races, but their societies, kingdoms, and cities are built to endure the test of time.
